In the Irish calendar, St Brigid's Day marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring (a few week's earlier than the official first day of spring). To celebrate, we make crosses on the day itself and say the prayer to St Brigid each morning, which encourages the children to speak Irish fluently and proudly as she did herself.
